chas|sis «SHAS ee, CHAS-», noun, plural chas|sis «SHAS eez, CHAS-».
1. a) the frame, wheels, and machinery of a motor vehicle that support the body. b) the working mechanism of an automobile as distinguished from a welded unit of frame and body, as in recent manufacture.
2. the main landing gear that supports the body of an aircraft.
3. a) the base or frame for the parts of a radio or television set or other electronic equipment. b) the parts mounted on this.
4. the frame on which a gun carriage moves backward and forward, as in recoil.
5. U.S. Slang. the body.
